Tim Crocker’s Tuesday Talk

Thanks to Tim Crocker for his enriching talk about his work, the qualities of his subject matter, and the purpose of architectural photography.

On a personal level, his appearance and enthusiasm were a welcome counterbalance to the blandness I’d sketched earlier that morining.

A sketch of Paul Finch’s insightful talk on Tuesday.

I found myself reflecting on the Thatcher legacy as I walked through the city the next morning, traffic free on account of her funeral. I stopped to admire the clarity of RSH’s new ‘cheese grater’ building under construction. You could fit about a third of the height of the iconic Lloyds building across the street into the lobby of the new building. Lloyds was completed a couple of years after Thatcher came to power, and seemed like a pretty big building back then. It looks pretty small now, but packs a lot of ideas in compared to the new breed of monumental neighbours.

HTA are excited to welcome Michael Kohn, founder of StickyWorld to HTA’s office to discuss his journey that started in parametric self build and has developed into technology for community consultation - amongst other uses - in the design of the built environment.

The new technology aims to transform the practice of static one-way presentations to enable more conversational, participatory and social learning experiences, which have a particular current relevance for community consultation and local planning issues. Looking again at the things we see everyday

Here’s a sketch of the top of a distressed looking brick building across the street from Eat, by Camden Tube. Brick buildings are fashionable and it’s informative to look at how people have been putting them together for centuries. For us up here, where brick isn’t really part of the mainstream vernacular, it’s a bit of an education.

The other drawing is a big food mixer that sits on the floor in one of our nice local coffee shops, The Bakehouse. Making Great Cakes.
